Celebrating Ingenuity and Curiosity: STEM Parade and Pi Day at Upper School

PI Day Valle Real

At ITJ Valle Real, we are an international school in Guadalajara with a focus on international education and project-based learning (PBL). Recently, we experienced two extraordinary events that inspired our students to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

STEM is an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This educational approach seeks to integrate these disciplines so that students develop fundamental skills to solve complex problems, work collaboratively, and think critically, while ensuring project-based learning. Through STEM education, curiosity, logical thinking, and the ability to adapt are fostered—key skills for students' future careers and personal lives. This contributes to a more advanced and competitive society. This is why UPPER School is focusing two major events on the development of these disciplines this school year.

The STEM Parade held at Upper School on February 27th was a grand celebration, bringing together students, teachers, and experts from various disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to attend interactive workshops on food science, robotics, programming, finance, and biotechnology, where they were able to experience firsthand the tools and knowledge of experts committed to STEM learning.

In addition, students presented myths about everyday life to test or debunk them using STEM tools. This event not only provided practical knowledge but also opened the door to new career possibilities, leaving a significant impact on the students' interest in science and technology.

El Día de Pi se celebra el 14 de marzo porque la fecha coincide con los primeros tres dígitos del número pi (3.14). Pi It is a mathematical constant that represents the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. It is an irrational number, meaning it has an infinite sequence of decimal places with no repeating pattern. It is often rounded to 3.14 to simplify calculations.

This day has become a celebration of mathematics and science, at ITJ Valle Real we wanted to enrich the celebration by including two important events: the birth of Albert Einstein and the death of Stephen Hawking, both physicists with contributions to humanity in the fields of Physics and Mathematics. Throughout the day, Elementary and Upper School had activities in class related to these topics. We even had a contest to mention the digits of Pi from memory, with one of our students, Luca M. from ninth grade, achieving the record of 224 digits.

Education with a global focus at ITJ Valle Real

At ITJ Valle Real, we are proud to offer a quality international education. As a globally focused school in Guadalajara, we promote project-based learning, allowing our students to develop key skills through hands-on experiences. Additionally, events like the STEM Parade and Pi Day reinforce our mission of developing innovative leaders. We are committed to continuing to instill a passion for science, math, and technology in each of our students, and we will continue to host events like this. Stay tuned!
